I love to do macramé, so I've put some instructions on
here,
and some designs that I've made. On the contact page, you can email me
and I will make any macramé piece you request, or you can give me more
resources and suggestions to post up. Enjoy!
About Macramé
Macramé is the craft of knotting to make jewelry, purses, plant hangers, wall hangings and just about anything you can create! It was popular during the 60's and 70's, and has recently been reintroduced as a fashionable jewelry fad. Its easy, fun and comfortable to wear. Macramé jewelry is usually made from the all natural material hemp. When you first make a piece, it is stiff and scratchy, be patient though and it will wear down to a comfortable softness that feels almost like cotton and loosens to fit. Wetting and washing hemp wears it down too; don't be afraid to keep your jewelry on all the time, the longer you where it the better it feels! You can buy hemp at almost any craft store now. Its pretty cheap and comes in all different colors and sizes. Its amazing how many jewelry pieces you can make with just one ball of hemp. For the projects on this page I would recommend using 2mm hemp because it is the easiest to find and works well for just about all jewelry pieces. Feel free to buy different sizes and experiment with them, you can change the size of hemp for any project to change the look. Thinner hemp will make the piece look thinner, thicker hemp will make it look wider, etc.
Before you Begin
Before you begin, make sure you have enough hemp cut for your project and that it is secured properly. I usually use a clip board to hold the top of the cords where the beginning knot is (an overhand knot), and a mini clamp or a piece of scotch tape to hold the filler cords (the two middle cords) while I tie with the working cords (1 cord on each side of the filler cords). If you don't have a clip board, you can hook the beginning loop onto a split ring, or tape the loop to a flat surface such like a book or a table.
